September 3, 2016Eurovision Young Musicians 2016
This year Slovenia will be represented by Zala Vidic. The 16-year old cellist won her country's national selection in January, being chosen as the best of eight candidates in the final by a jury consisting of: Živa Ploj Peršuh, Mate Bekavac and Tomaž Lorenz. Starting her music career aged six, Zala was admitted to the Ljubljana Music & Ballet Conservatory in 2013 where she currently studies with Professor Karmen Pečar - who incidentally finished third at Eurovision Young Musicians in 2002. Zala has performed regularly in Slovenia since 2008, and has a collection of prizes to her name already including: a gold plaque and first prize at TEMSIG-Slovenian Music Competition for Youth (2009), second prize at TEMSIG (2012), and third prize at the International Cello Competition Antonio Janigro in Poreč, Croatia (2014/2015). Additionally Zala also won second prize at the Petar Konjović international competition in Belgrade, Serbia; and has also won numerous awards as a member of the 'piano trio' (with Manja Slak – violin and Ana Čop - piano).
