Wells Cathedral Choir (United Kingdom)

Wells Cathedral has maintained a choral tradition virtually unbroken for over 800 years. Boys and men for all of that time have sung the services, and in 1994 the choral foundation at Wells was greatly enriched by the addition of a seperate girls choir. The choir sings a wide repertoire of music that ranges from the glorious masterpieces of the Renaissance period to the finest choral works of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Wells Cathedral Choir consists of eighteen boy and eighteen girl choristers and twelve men. The history of the choir is at least as old as the present building; the records of the Vicars Choral go back to 1136 and it is known that there were boys singing at Wells even earlier.
