PETULA CLARK ® began her career as a renowned child star in Britain during World War II, starting at age 9 in 1942. Known as "radio's merry mimic" and Britain's Shirley Temple, the girl sang for troops on BBC radio, made over 500 performances, and appeared in numerous films before becoming a global 1960s pop icon. First Live Performance (Age 7): Her first performance in front of a live audience took place in 1939 at the Colliers' Arms in Abercanaid, Wales. Radio Debut (Age 9): The kid made her first broadcast on October 17, 1942, for the BBC Empire Service. While attending a broadcast with her father to send a message to an uncle serving overseas, she volunteered to sing "Mighty Lak' a Rose" to calm the audience during an air raid. By age 11, she was already a well-known star in British concert halls. Her international successes have included "Prends mon cœur",and Downtown.🌍 (Ages 9–12): Following her radio debut, she became known as the "Singing Sweetheart" and made approximately 500 appearances in programs designed to entertain the troops.
