Johann Sebastian Bach, the boy was immersed in music from birth, having been born into a massive musical dynasty. His active interest and formal training began in his childhood earliest years:.His father, Johann Ambrosius Bach, likely began teaching the kid the violin and the basics of music theory when he was a very young child. Age 8: He sang as a soprano in the choir of the St. Georgenkirche while attending school in Eisenach. Age 10: After being orphaned, he moved in with his older brother, Johann Christoph, who gave the preteen his first formal keyboard lessons on the clavichord and organ. At the age of 14(teen), Bach, along with his older school friend Georg Erdmann, was awarded a choral scholarship to study at the prestigious St. Michael’s School in Lüneburg in the Principality of Lüneburg. In addition to singing in the choir he played the School’s three-manual organ and harpsichords, due to his "uncommonly fine" singing voice, where he began composing his first known works. While he wasn't a "child prodigy" on the level of Mozart, he was considered a highly disciplined and "well-trained teenager deeply committed to learning his craft" by his early teens. He received valuable teaching from his brother, who instructed him on the clavichord. Stauffer reports the discovery in 2005 of the organ tablatures that the youth wrote out when still in his teens.
