Aksel Johannes Skramstad Rykkvin (Norway)

Boy soprano Aksel Johannes Skramstad Rykkvin (b. 2003) started singing in Oslo Cathedral Boys’ Choir as a candidate in 2009, while he was still five years old. He proceeded to the main choir in 2011. The choir is presently conducted by Sindre Hugo Bjerkestrand with Helene Haarr as vocal coach. Aksel has performed frequently as a soloist with the choir, in Oslo Cathedral, Trinity Church (Oslo), University of Oslo Library, Old Aker Church (Oslo), Eidsvoll Church and Nes Church, as well as in the Margareta Church during Oslo International Church Music Festival in 2014, when parts of his soloist performance was broadcast on national television (NRK1).

Every Christmas all five choirs of the Oslo Cathedral join for a series of magnificent concerts (“In dulci jubilo”), and Aksel was a soloist in 2011, -12, -13 and -14. Apart from the choir, Aksel has done solo performances in funerals, christenings and services in Oslo Cathedral, St. Olav’s Cathedral, Ljan Church, Nordstrand Church, Kampen Church, Fet Church and Lilleborg Church.

Just 11 ½ years old, in October 2014, Aksel held his first solo concert with cathedral organist Kåre Nordstoga. The audience in Oslo Cathedral was numerous and satisfied! In October 2015, Aksel will do another concert with Nordstoga in Oslo Cathedral.

On Resurrection Sunday 2015, Aksel joined leading cathedral organist Magne H. Draagen for a concert in Norway's biggest church, Nidaros Cathedral. Once again, Aksel sang for a big audience to standing ovations! On Good Friday 2015, he was soprano soloist in Allegri's Miserere mei, also in Nidaros Cathedral, conducted by Tore Erik Mohn.
